Saints Rugby President Leigh Clarke

President's Letter

After a successful 2025 season, we’re excited to continue growing and improving our program. We’re grateful for the support of Rugby Canada, Rugby Alberta, and the South Alberta Rugby Union—providing top-tier fields at Calgary Rugby Park, insurance for players and coaches, Match Officials for U13 and up, and development pathways that contribute to our national teams, including the Women’s team’s recent Rugby World Cup silver medal.

Based on feedback from across the rugby community, Rugby Canada has decided to move to PlayHQ as the new registration, sanctioning, and competition management platform.

Please contact admin@saintsrugby.com if you have any questions about PlayHQ.

Registration typically opens beginning to mid February. We will announce registration on our website, social media and our newsletter. To be added to our newsletter, please contact communications@saintsrugby.com

Once you register you will receive an email and receipt from PlayHQ, this means your registration has been received. Following that email you can expect to hear from the club within 7 -10 days. You will receive an email with full club information, and you will also receive a separate email with a Teamsnap invite to your team for communications.

Yes, you can choose a payment plan offered on PlayHQ when you are registering.

The minis (U5,7,911), juniors (U13/15) and senior men and women’s teams start mid April. U16 and U18 start when the high school season finishes, typically mid June.

We also offer a fall season for minis and juniors. Practice starts mid August with games occurring in September.

Keep an eye on club communications for an official start date.

The minis (U5,7,911) and juniors (U13/15) spring season runs until the end of June.

Once the Calgary Rugby Union releases the schedule, all games for your team can be found on TeamSnap.

Yes, we are registered with KidSport, which provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees so that ALL kids aged 18 and under can play a season of sport. Please provide confirmation of due payment and enrolment with KidSport. Once the club receives the KidSport funds, we will reimburse you for the dues you paid. For more information, please contact admin@saintsrugby.com to enquire about help with costs.

Prior to registering your child with a club, parents are required to take the Respect in Sport course.  This course costs approximately $12 and is aimed to aid in the prevention of bullying, abuse, harassment, and discrimination (BAHD). The program’s mission is to empower participants to recognize signs of BAHD and eliminate it from the game, through a global culture of respect.

A link to the website can be found here along with additional information: Respect in Sport: Parent Program – Rugby Alberta

Rugby Canada has adopted the CSSP, which independently administers the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS). Those individuals who have been notification as subject tot he CSSP, will be required to complete an complete an e-learning course and sign the participant consent form. The club will coordinate compliance and continue to ensure we are aligned with this program.

You will need a pair of rugby or soccer cleats and a mouthguard. You will also need to purchase black rugby shorts, which are available to purchase during registration or at a later date on our storefront.

You will receive a training shirt and socks.

Minis (U7/9/11) are provided with a jersey to keep. All other players will be provided with jerseys/shirts for game days and are required to return it after each game.

Refunds are automatically provided if no games have been played and registration is cancelled within 15 days. Refunds requested after 15 days require approval from all applicable rugby governing bodies. All refund requests must be submitted through the registration platform, PlayHQ. Once a refund request has been reviewed and approved by the Saints, please note that the club is only able to refund the Saints portion of the dues. We are unable to refund any dues payable to Rugby Canada, Rugby Alberta, or the Calgary Rugby Union.

We strive to keep dues as low as possible. Included with your dues is a $100 volunteer fee, that is refunded (less $1.50 for service fees) upon completion of volunteer hours.

Part of the dues is set by Rugby Canada and Rugby Alberta. The saints portion of the dues cover operational costs, including field rentals, Athletic Therapist, kit, and equipment.

General questions can be directed to admin@saintsrugby.com. Otherwise, please see our people page for who to contact.
